15
Adding Patients to EDIS

16

17

18
EDIS automatically adds patients when you use VistA’s Scheduling (Appointment Management) package to create an emergency department appointment for patients.

19
20
The EDPF LOCATION parameter, which holds your site’s emergency department location or locations, controls this functionality. Parameter settings ensure that only emergency-department check ins and appointments add patients to EDIS.

21
You can also add patients to the application from its Sign In and Triage views.

22
The Sign In view encompasses four areas:

23
Add Patient button: the Add Patient button enables you to add patients to the application

24
Active Patients list: the Active Patients List is a comprehensive list of patients who are currently active in the application

25
Patient Information bar: when you select a patient in the Active Patients list, the Patient Information bar displays the patient’s demographic information from VistA. It also displays notifications such as patient-record flags

26
Patient Information pane: this area includes several data-entry fields that are usually available at sign in

37
Enter Name, Patient Is Not in VistA: enables you to add patients who are not in your local VistA system

38
Ambulance Is Arriving, Patient Name Is Unknown: enables you to add information for patients whose identities are unknown

39
The Identify Patient button allows you to associate the emergency-department tracking records of patients who were added using the Enter Name, Patient Is Not in VistA or Ambulance Is Arriving, Patient Name Is Unknown selections with their electronic records in VistA. This button is located on the Patient Information bar.
